INTRODUCTION TO TURKISH AND ARABIC NEY FLUTE.

Teacher: Maren Lueg

(All LEVELS WELCOME)

The Ney flute is one of the oldest and most popular Traditional Wind Instruments of the Middle East performed in secular and religious music.

The Ney is an oblique rim end blown reed-flute that is open at both ends, has six finger holes along the front and one thumb hole on the underside. The Ney is made in its traditional form from the Arundo Donax plant, the same as is used to make oboe, saxophone and clarinet reeds. Reed flutes like the Ney have been played for hundreds and possibly thousands of years all across the Middle East.

In this workshop Maren will introduce the Ney and the best techniques for learning to play this instrument.

Any experienced players will be catered for.

Ney Flutes will be provided.
